Responsibility is not always immediately apparent. It operates in the background, guides our choices, and influences what we build—and what we choose not to build.
This is why it is meaningful for us to announce that Kipinä is now a Certified B Corp™. The certification highlights the core principle that has guided our operations from the very beginning: a commitment to sustainability that is not just talk, but verified action.
The B Corp certification does not mean we are "finished." It means our operations have been independently assessed and that we are committed to developing them systematically and transparently. The certification provides us with a clear framework and standard of excellence that we strive to uphold moving forward.
What is the B Corp certification?
B Corp™, or Benefit Corporation, is an international sustainability certification granted to companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
The certification is not a marketing tagline; it is based on B Lab's rigorous evaluation process, which assesses a company's overall impact across five key categories: environment, workers, customers, community, and governance. It is not a single project, but rather an evaluation and direction of our entire business model and operational practices.
Certification is an ongoing process, and the assessment is renewed regularly as standards continue to rise. For us, this means that our development work does not end here. The certification gives us a clear structure to critically and measurably evaluate and improve our operations.
What does the B Corp certification mean for us?
Sustainability has been part of Kipinä's mindset from day one. In terms of environmental responsibility, this means systematically measuring and reducing our own carbon footprint, offsetting emissions, and making conscious choices regarding our office space, procurement, and travel, among other things. Most importantly, it is reflected in how we build co-ownership, shared decision-making, and a thriving workplace community, as well as how we consider the long-term impacts of our operations and technology.
At the same time, we recognize that sustainability is not a static state. Digital development, client business pressures, and the rapid transformation of technology frequently create situations where choices are not straightforward. We cannot decide on our own what kind of technology solutions emerge in the world or what impacts our clients' business models will have.
However, we can influence our own actions and the discussions we have with our clients. For us, B Corp represents a commitment to responsible everyday operations and decision-making, considering the long-term impacts of technology solutions, and actively integrating a sustainability perspective into our client work.
